The whole point of this blog is that I don’t spend enough time outdoors and active. It’s supposed to spur me on. The hours I spent outdoors this week, I suspect, were negligible. I feel like reviewing it as a measure of a failure to chase any wilderness. As well as spur me on to do better next week.
Monday – Cycled 4 miles to Temple Meads train station to catch a train to a design agency in Bath. Walked to and from the train station to the agency. Worked indoors all day. Lunch over a computer. Cycled 4 miles home from the station.
Estimated time outdoors: 1 hour
Tuesday – Day off. Went to the supermarket. Drove the 3yo to ballet (could have walked!). Walked to and from a cafe to meet a work colleague.
Estimated time outdoors: 10 minutes
Wednesday – Did puzzles with 3yo, trying to embrace the ups and downs of freelance. Did some work (networking and emailing people) from home. Picked some veg from the garden. Walked around the square with 8mo baby asleep on my back. Did some chores at home.
Estimated time outdoors: 25 minutes
Thursday – Put the recycling out. Worked in the morning from home and worked in the afternoon in Cardiff. Walked from car to the office.
Estimated time outdoors: maybe not even 10 minutes
Friday – Worked all day at home. Put rubbish out. Walked down the garden to put compost out. Packed the car to go away.
Estimated time outdoors: 20 minutes
Saturday – We stayed in caravan site that my wife was reviewing in Cartharthenshire this weekend. Walked around Carmarthen town and went to a restaurant. Quick walk to castle at the end of the day which was shut so took some photos and went back. Spent most of the day indoors including swimming pool and my first experience of bingo.
Estimated time outdoors: 40 minutes
Sunday – Relaxing breakfast and papers in the caravan. Walk on the beach followed by a round of crazy golf.
Estimated time outdoors: 3 hours
Total Estimated time outdoors: 5 hours 45 mins
All in all it was a good week to have some outdoor time and there was very little excuse why I didn’t.
Note to self: Must, must do better, especially as now working freelance and my routine gets thrown around week to week.
I might calculate outdoor time more scientifically in the future.
